TVP HD FTA on TVP platform at 19,2E

Polish Television (TVP) satellite platform, which will be launched in 2009, selected satellite operator SES ASTRA and orbital position 19,2E. TVP will not offer 2 packages (as previously announced - free and paid), but 3 packages. There\'s a lack of space on Eutelsat\'s 13E position and that is why SES ASTRA was chosen. TVP has also considered 23,5E position but 19,2E satellite is right next to the Hot Bird 13E which is very popular in Poland.

TVP channels will be available from ASTRA 19,2E transponders in MPEG-4/DVB-S2.Digital SD MPEG-2/DVB-S receivers will not be useful here. According to previously published information, TVP intended to offer 2 packages. Currently, there are 3 packages. The first one contains FTA channels - TVP1, TVP2, TVP INFO, TVP Polonia, TVP Historia, TVP Kultura, TV Puls, TV Trwam and... TVP HD. It should be noted that these channels would be broadcast in the spot beam technology and their signal availability will be reduced only to the territory of Poland.

The second package includes 5 channels, encoded in the so-called soft (TVP has not yet chosen encoding system), with the popular Polish commercial stations, including the ones known from the analogue terrestrial transmission. TVP Sport should join them but the offer does not include TV4 channel. Second package is going to be FTV (free-to-view), it would be free after viewers purchase a special encoding card - one-time purchase of the card for maximum 50 PLN.

The third package, fully paid would consist of 20-30 foreign channels, paid from 1 PLN per month to 7 PLN per month for a selected channel, but the viewer would decide which channels he selects. Activation and payment can be done by Internet or text massage.

Polish TVP platform is modeled on the UK Freesat platform. We still don't know the launch date but it will happen this year.
